Version History
Version 3.90.000 of TracePlus®/Web Detective
(Standard Edition) includes the following fixes and enhancements:
-
When running .NET applications under Windows 2000 and Windows XP using .NET
Framework 1.1, HTTP responses would not be seen by TracePlus. (FIXED)
-
HTTP sessions would not display correctly if a web application was using
overlapped I/O or I/O completion ports. (FIXED)
Version 3.89.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
Some compressed objects received from the server would not be decompressed as
expected. (FIXED)
-
The context menu in the Protocol was not appearing as expected when
right-clicking within the view. (FIXED)
-
When text objects were displayed in the Body Content View, the text editor
would be incorrectly sized relative to the Body Content View. (FIXED)
-
Copying over 3000 items to the clipboard in all views would take a significant
length of time. (FIXED)
-
HTTP response headers that specify Transfer-Encoding: Chunked, when in reality
the data was not chunked might cause TracePlus to crash. (FIXED)
-
Support for BCOPY, BDELETE, BMOVE, BPROPFIND, BPROPPATCH, and X-MS-ENUMATTS
methods available in Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003. (NEW)
Version 3.85.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
Added a new Body Content viewer to the Protocol View. The Body Content View
displays the content of the selected HTTP request or response in its native
text or graphical format. Text will be displayed with carriage returns and line
feeds notated for reference. Tabs are expanded, and word wrapping is turned
off. Images will be displayed actual size. Above each image will be displayed a
description of the image, including its dimensions and number of colors. If the
object does not use a color palette, then the word "RGB" will be displayed. (NEW)
-
Added a new Body Content viewer to the Object View. (NEW)
-
Support for HTTP headers with either "deflate" and "gzip" content encodings.
Headers will be decompressed by TracePlus and displayed in their original
format. (NEW)
-
Trace files may load incorrectly due to the sort option being added to the
Protocol View, which causes records to be loaded in random order (not in
sequential order as aspected). The side affect of this means that the "Start at
record" option in the Import dialog box would not work as expected. (FIXED)
-
The DNS Lookup View has been removed from the product, and replaced with the
Body Content View.
-
The SSL features may not work correctly if the application is using WININET in
a Unicode environment. (FIXED)
Version 3.81.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
The demo version of the product would crash due to a invalid pointer being
passed to a memory allocation function. (FIXED)
-
The DNS Lookup View was not working as expected because the logic to implement
the feature was missing from WINSDATA.DLL. (FIXED)
-
An error when intercepting the Winsock function accept() may cause the target
application to crash or not work as expected. (FIXED)
-
The international date, time, and numeric formatting can be reset to English
(United States) by selecting "Use English (U.S.) Formatting" from the View
menu. This feature is enabled only if the user locale specified in Windows is
OTHER than English (United States). (NEW)
Version 3.80.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
Supports the date, time, and numeric formats of over thirty countries:
| Australia |
France |
New Zealand |
| Austria |
Germany |
Norway |
| Belgium |
Iceland |
Paraguay |
| Bolivia |
Indonesia |
Philippines |
| Brazil |
Ireland |
Portugal |
| Canada |

| Chile |
Jamaica |
Sweden |
| Colombia |
Liechenstein |
Switzerland |
| Denmark |

(NEW)
-
Now compatible with .NET Web Services, ASP.NET, HTML Applications (HTAs), .NET
Remoting, and applications written for the .NET Framework (SSL under .NET is
not supported at this time). (NEW)
-
When "Clear all Views" was selected, the Details View (the lower half of the
Protocol View) would not be cleared. (FIXED)
-
The Export feature is now disabled when a trace is started.
-
The Process column in the Data View has been modified to display the Process ID
in hexidecimal only if Windows 98/ME. The number is now right justified.
-
The Clear Internet Explorer Cache option on the View menu did not clear the
cache as expected. (FIXED)
-
When using Browser automation scripts: The /IE_CLEARCACHE option did not clear
the IE cache as expected. (FIXED)
-
Modified the saving of application filenames and parameter lists in the Launch
dialog box so that embedded quotes would be saved correctly. (FIXED)
Version 3.65.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
Single packet headers containing no "Content-Length" field may not appear in
the Protocol View until the socket closes. (FIXED)
-
When using Browser automation Scripts: The /RESUME command acts as the /START
command and starts a new instance of the current application, rather than
resuming the capture. (FIXED)
-
When using Browser automation Scripts: The /RESUME command will not reopen the
log files, therefore information will not be written to the log files after the
/RESUME command is issued. (FIXED)
Version 3.64.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
SSL responses displayed by TracePlus may have been cached by Internet Explorer
on your system drive. TracePlus now displays these cached items in a brown
color in all Views. (NEW)
-
The "Automatic" and "ASCII" display options in the Data View Settings tab
considered characters greater than ASCII 132 as binary, thus either displaying
the data in hex or not displaying it at all. The range considered as ASCII
characters has been expanded to ASCII 32-255, thus including international
characters. (FIXED)
-
The Web Performance dialog box would crash when long URLs were typed into the
URL combo box, and the Start button was pressed. (FIXED)
-
The Web Performance dialog box did not handle correctly situations where the
URL entered into the URL combo box returned an 404 Not Found error. (FIXED)
-
URLs that contained an ampersand ("&") within a path or filename would be
abnormally truncated. (FIXED)
-
Under some circumstances, the TracePlus application would crash with the error
"Exception 0x8000003", due to several DebugBreak() statements left in the code.
(FIXED)
-
When monitoring an HTTP 1.0 data stream, TracePlus would report object sizes of
zero because the "Content-Length" header field was missing. (FIXED)
Version 3.61.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
A DNS Lookup View has been added in the Protocol View (next to the Details
window). Displays results and response times for host name lookups. (NEW)
-
Browser Automation scripts now generate a DNS Lookup Times report in tab
limited ASCII format.
-
Browser Automation scripts now output DNS Lookup statistics in tab limited
ASCII format in addition to the other files. (NEW)
-
A new option DNS_LOOKUP:NO_REPORT has been added to the Browser Automation
syntax.
-
The Save as ASCII feature now outputs DNS Lookup statistics in tab limited
ASCII format in addition to the other files. (NEW)
-
A "Maximize Pane" feature has been added to the Protocol View and Page View. (NEW)
-
A "Restore Panes" feature has been added to the Protocol View and Page View. (NEW)
-
TracePlus can now detect applications launched from the Desktop under Windows
2000 if Service Pack 3 or more is installed. This feature is also now
compatible with all Security Updates. (FIXED)
Version 3.50.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
Previous versions of the Web Detective presented HTTP headers in order that TracePlus
intercepted them from the application. Since many Internet applications are
multi-threaded, it became time consuming to locate the HTTP request and
matching response in the Protocol View. (NEW)
-
The Protocol View can sorted by either session ID or sequence number. What
happens is that all requests and responses will line up in pairs (except when
the client makes more than one request simultaneously on the same socket. This
way, you can easily understand the logical grouping of HTTP requests and
responses. (NEW)
-
The Object View can be sorted by session ID. You can easily visualize the
logical grouping of objects via server connections. (NEW)
-
The Data View can be sorted by session ID. You can easily visualize the logical
order of data packets as they were sent or received via server connections. (NEW)
-
The Export as ASCII feature will generate one ASCII file for each of the
four Views in realtime while a trace is running. This feature is identical in
functionality to how the Browser Automation Scripts generate ASCII files. (NEW)
-
TracePlus/Web Detective (Standard Edition) is now compatible with Windows
Server 2003. (NEW)
-
WININET would report objects retrieved from local cache as a response code 200
(OK), when the response code was 304 (Not Modified). This only occurs on SSL
connections. (FIXED)
-
The HTML output was significantly enhanced to match the HTML output of TracePlus/Web
Detective (eBusiness Edition) and TracePlus/Ethernet. (FIXED)
-
Computer Name, IP address, and Service Pack information has added to exported
RDF files This information is added when RDF files are created so that you can
easily identify RDF files generated on other PCs. (NEW)
-
A "Select All" option has been added to the Edit menu and right-click menus for
each View. (NEW)
-
A "Scroll while Capturing" option has been added to the View menu. This feature
determines whether the each View will scroll automatically to the last item in
the View when a new item is added. If this option is checked, all Views will
scroll automatically, otherwise you can press End or Ctrl+Pg Dn to find the
last item in the View. (NEW)
Version 3.25.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
NOTE: If you have previously downloaded the 3.20.000 update, please download
this newer update. It corrects a problem with debug code left in the 3.20.000
version that may cause timeout issues with Internet Explorer.
-
Disable application debugger detection feature will prevent the application
from detecting that it is being run in a debugger. Some well known applications
have code in them that prevent applications such as TracePlus from revealing
the way that they operate. Such applications abort immediately after they are
launched, or disable certain features of the application when a debugger is
detected. (NEW).
-
SSL POST requests made by Javascript applications would not be seen by
TracePlus. (FIXED)
-
A new executable called TPBATCH.EXE now ships with TracePlus which provides the
Browser Automation Script feature. A sample script is installed with the latest
SETUP.EXE and is located in the same directory as TPWEB32.EXE.
-
Several new commands were added to the Browser Automation Script feature to
support the automation of Internet Explorer:
| /IE_LAUNCH |
/IE_CLEARCOOKIES |
| /IE_URL |
/IE_EXIT |
| /IE_CLEAR_CACHE |
|
-
The /LOG option will now create the requested filename in the "My Documents"
directory if no drive or path is specified before the filename.
-
The /PAUSE feature for the Browser Automation Script would pause for only half
of the requested number of seconds. (FIXED)
-
Added "Clear Internet Explorer Cache" option to the View menu. (NEW).
-
Added "Clear Internet Explorer Cookies" option to the View menu. (NEW).
-
The "Save as ASCII" option now saves the Data View in a column type format (tab
delimited) that is suitable for import into Microsoft Excel or other
spreadsheet application.
-
The Page View was not displaying the last item in the View due to a problem
with the fix that was made in version 3.07.000 (MAJOR FIX)
Version 3.07.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
When tracing SSL connections, the cookie passed to the server via an HTTP
request would not be displayed. (MAJOR FIX)
-
When importing large RDF files, TracePlus may crash in WEBGUI.DLL with an
access violation. (MAJOR FIX)
-
Uses Windows XP colors and styles (theme) when running under Windows XP. (NEW).
Version 3.06.001 included the following fixes and
enhancements
-
When exporting the Page View as ASCII, a Date field appears as column 1 in the
file. However, the column header was omitted, so all columns appear to have the
wrong column header when loaded into a spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel.
-
The Data View would display up to the number of bytes specified in the "Display
up to" option if the "Display all" option was selected in the Data Options
dialog box. (MAJOR FIX)
-
The Data View would display the entire packet if the "Display up to" option was
selected in the Data Options dialog box. (MAJOR FIX)
Version 3.05.000 included the following fixes and
enhancements:
-
Added a new column called "URL" to the Page View, which displays the actual URL
of the specified object (minus the "http://" or https://" prefix). (NEW).
-
Added a new column called "URL" to the Object View, which displays the actual
URL of the specified object (minus the "http://" or https://" prefix). (NEW).
-
When using the "Save as RDF" or "Save as ZIP" features, the contents of the
Page View would be saved to a file twice. (MAJOR FIX)
The following fixes and enhancements apply to the Web Performance feature and
Validate Links feature:
-
An "Exclude URLs" feature was added so that URLs containing with recursive
links can be filtered so that the drilldown will not continue endlessly.
-
URLs with a trailing slash would be identified as (default page).
-
If an image tag contained options other than <IMG SRC=>, then the
succeeding HTML would be parsed incorrectly.
-
URLs containing parameters were not properly handled, causing the "drilldown"
logic to create improperly formatted URLs, causing TracePlus to crash in
certain situations.
-
URLs with relative paths, i.e. "../assets/image.gif" were not being parsed
correctly.
-
URLs with root paths, i.e. "./images/button.gif" would generate an improperly
formatted URL which would lead to a "404 Not Found" error.
-
HTML Page names would be parsed incorrectly if parameters were present.
-
A coding error when parsing URLs via WININET could cause memory corruption.
-
A blank page name was being displayed when the base page name was determined
-
to be a slash ("/"). This has been changed to the phrase "(default page)".
-
The column widths of the two list views in each dialog box could not be
adjusted while a web site is being tested.
-
If either dialog box is maximized or minimized then closed, then the dialog
could not
-
restored to normal size when the dialog box is displayed again.
-
The Web Performance dialog box would not display objects that had a return code
of >= 400 in the lower list view, when an HTML object was selected in the
upper list view.
-
When clicking on a object in the upper list view (both dialog boxes), if the
URL was over 256 characters, TracePlus would crash.
-
The <BASE HREF> tag was not being checked, so the URL for links relative
to that page would be calculated incorrectly.
-
The Web Performance feature did not display statistics for certain media types
such as .PDF, .WAV, .RM, .AVI, etc.
